HR Outsourcing Case Study: No Formal Performance Management System

Our client was experiencing a culture of complacency; they didn't have a mechanism for evaluating performance or contribution to the company. We created a performance management system with a balanced scorecard so employees could understand their roles and impact within the organization and implemented the following:

  • Developed a standardized form for job descriptions and partnered with the managers to complete Position Description Questionnaires ("PDQs"), tools that help develop the job-related duties for the position, skills, experience, and educational background for each uniquely titled position.
  • Created the outline for the Performance Appraisal form, which measured each employee against the company's mission, vision, and values. Culture was crucial to our client, so we created a section for organizational characteristics, which was the same for all employees. The second section tied back to the job descriptions and pulled the job-related data for each position so employees could be measured against their job responsibilities. The third section captured the goals for each employee and rated them using quantitative results.
  • The form was completed by taking the balanced score from each area, weighting them with an emphasis on results, and tabulating a final rating
