Compensation Resources, Inc. and Christian Management Association Release the 2007 Compensation Handbook for Christian Ministries

Upper Saddle River, NJ – Compensation Resources, Inc. (CRI) and Christian Management Association (CMA) have released their 2007 Compensation Handbook for Christian Ministries.  This is an annual study specifically designed to provide important compensation data for use by Christian based organizations.  Along with salary data on 70 jobs, the survey also captured benefit information including insurance coverage and human resource trends, such as: paid time off, retirement plans, turnover, etc.
 
The data is separated into the following 12 industrial classifications covering Christian based organizations:

P       Broadcast Media
P       Foundations
P       Camps & Conference Centers
P       Mission Agencies
P       Christian Colleges/Universities
P       Outreach/Social Service
P       Churches
P       Parachurches
P       Educational Services
P       Publishers
 
 
In addition, the survey data is reported for each position by revenue, employee size, and organizational hierarchy.  Various statistical measures are reported, such as the average, median, and percentile data for each position.
 
A key finding is that there is a heavy reliance (80% of participants) on the use of published surveys for establishing the market price for their jobs.  More than half (59% of respondents) provide salary increases based on length of service or provide flat across the board increases to all employees.  The remaining 41% of the participants indicated that they provide salary increases based on employees’ evaluated performance.  It is interesting to note that this is well below the use of merit pay programs typically found in the non-religion based organizations.  In those organizations, merit pay accounts for 75%-93% according to various recent studies.
